US liquid quarts and gallons

This page uses US liquid units, the ones on milk jugs and paint cans in the United States. Exactly 4 US quarts fill 1 US gallon.

The UK Imperial gallon is bigger — about 4.55 liters against the US gallon’s 3.79 liters — so an Imperial quart-to-gallon count is still 4, but the containers themselves hold more.

The US dry quart is a separate unit used for produce. It is not what this page converts.
